Flyers Beat Wings, Osgood

It took the better part of two periods for Chris Osgood to knock off the rust and by then the damage was irreversible.

The Philadelphia Flyers scored three times on their first 11 shots and rode that to a 4-3 victory Sunday.

The Wings, who have lost six straight in Philadelphia dating back to 1997, had their point streak snapped at 12. They hadn’t lost a game in regulation since March 9. Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at two — any combination of two points won by the Wings or lost by Calgary and they are in.

I think you shouldn’t blame Osgood too much on this one. He has struggled this season (and I gurantee he can be a lot better than that), but he hasn’t played very much since the beginning of the year. Jimmy Howard may have the starting position in the playoffs, but it’s probably better to have both goalies to be well conditioned. The Wings should have played Ozzy more. Although if that were the case, the outcome we have now might have been different than it has been with Howard in net. But still, kind of a bad idea by the Wings to play only Howard all season.
