Three Degrees Of Pat Caputo
Three things to consider about the Lions trading Ernie Sims and getting tight end Tony Scheffler in return:
1. Scheffler is an exceptional receiver with great speed and athleticism for the position. He was only available because of a dispute in Denver with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. He and Jay Cutler were buddies.
2. The Lions did not think Sims was even the short-term answer at linebacker.
3. It could open the door for the Lions taking a middle linebacker in the second round (Brandon Spike?) and keeping DeAndre Levy in Sims' outside spot, where he played so effectively last season.
