Damon Gets Mohawk, But Tigers Can't Get Clutch Hits

Tigers rookie catcher Alex Avila could have been the star on Monday with bat, pitch-calling -- and scissors.

Avila gave Johnny Damon his Mohawk haircut on Monday afternoon.
He drilled what could have been the go-ahead single his first time up.

And he caught Dontrelle Willis in a way that caused Willis to say, "He did a great job . . . Our staff is dynamic -- everybody throws a different style -- but he picks up what I need to do to get back in the zone. When we go 2-0 or 2-1, he calls the right pitch for me to get back in the zone, with the right target. It's little things like that that make a difference in a ballgame."
