Lightning To Announce Yzerman As GM

Sportsnet has learned Steve Yzerman will become the new general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. An announcement will be made Tuesday afternoon.

The multi-year deal is believed to be one of the richest offered to an NHL executive. The move ends a 26-year relationship with the Detroit Red Wings, where Yzerman played all of his 22 NHL seasons before moving to the franchise's front office in 2006. Yzerman worked the past four seasons as a vice-president with the team, winning his first Stanley Cup as a manager in 2008.
