Parks Filling For Holiday Weekend

The 4th of July weekend is just a few days away and Michigan's state park system will be crowded. When gasoline prices were hitting new highs in 2008, a lot of people stayed closer to home during the 4th of July and that meant fewer campers at state parks. That is not the case this year, however, as Harold Herta of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment says they're seeing healthy increases.

"We're actually about 5% ahead of last year's levels ... and on the 4th of July weekend ... our busiest weekend of the year ... we're over 90% booked," Herta told WWJ Newsradio 950.

Herta says if you just leave without making any reservations at a state park, you're probably going to be out of luck.
