Hong Kong Printer Installs 12 X-Rite Systems

Kentwood-based X-Rite Inc. (Nasdaq: XRIT) said Wednesday that Golden Cup Printing Co. Ltd., a Hong Kong based printer, has installed 12 new IntelliTrax press-side automated color management scanning systems in a printing plant in Dongguan to maximize their productivity and profitability during make-ready and production.

Located in the Pearl River Delta, China's printing hub, Golden Cup is one of the most technologically advanced printers in the world, offering a variety of printing services including books, magazines, commercials, stationary and special packaging in paper and foils.

With the help and expertise of local distributor Dah Bang Printing Ink Mfy. Ltd., the new IntelliTrax systems have been installed on 12 of the company's 19 8-color, 5-color and 4-color high-speed offset presses, allowing them to produce quality results, fast, regardless of the volume and complexity of the print job. These systems complement the existing IntelliTrax systems that Golden Cup previously acquired from X-Rite OEM partners.

"We chose the IntelliTrax systems because of its high speed performance, which allows us to significantly shorten our faster make-ready time," said Albert Yeung, production director at Golden Cup. "And with the industry trend toward ever shorter press runs, the time we save by reducing make-ready more than justifies our investment."

Added Iris Mangelschots, X-Rite senior vice president of sales and marketing: "As one of the leading and most technologically-advanced printers in the world, Golden Cup recognizes the importance of color control for their business, and we are thrilled that they have chosen X-Rite as their partner of choice."

Designed for high-end, high-speed printing operations, IntelliTrax automatically scans the color bar of a typical press sheet in just 15 seconds -- including Pantone colors, special colors, non-process colors and paper color -- and immediately reports these results on-screen, allowing press operators at Golden Cup to quickly make adjustments and get to the approved color faster. This allows for faster make-ready, improves quality control and ultimately leads to increased ROI.

IntelliTrax displays real-time measurement results in a graphical traffic light report: green bars indicate good color; yellow and red represent values that are out of tolerance. By quickly pinpointing problem areas, Golden Cup's press operators can now bring the process back into control with ease and avoid generating off color waste.

Because IntelliTrax supports the use of the industry's CIP4 and JDF data standards, Golden Cup is able integrate the data generated by IntelliTrax into their data management system to enable faster set-up and accurate job information such as ink rotation, color specification, job identification, and paper stock.

X-Rite develops, manufactures, markets and supports innovative color solutions through measurement systems, software, color standards and services. X-Rite serves a range of industries, including printing, packaging, photography, graphic design, video, automotive, paints, plastics, textiles, dental and medical.
