Boats Collide, 6 People Hurt, 1 Dead

A boat crash on Lake St. Clair Friday morning left one person dead and six people hospitalized, while three others were rescued from the water.

Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel told WWJ that it happened around 1 a.m. about a half-mile off shore from Miller Marina, which is on Jefferson between Nine and Ten Mile roads.

"Two boats did collide," said Hackel, noting that there were a total of ten people "thrown from the boats.  They were rescued by some of the Coast Guard personnel.  Six are at the hospital," Hackel added.  All of the victims were taken to St. John Hospital for treatment.

The dead man's body was found just after 6:30 a.m. not far from the crash site.

The most seriously injured is a 12-year old boy.  Another man was also described as having serious injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
