Swimmer Drowns In Lake Erie
A day at the lake turns deadly in Monroe County. The U.S. Coast Guard recovered the body of a teenaged swimmer who went missing in Lake Erie at Sterling State Park Tuesday afternoon.
A sheriff's official told reporters the victim, identified as 16-year old Louis Fernando Barba, swam outside a safe swimming zone to retrieve a ball and went under water.
Some other people at the beach attempted a rescue, but couldn't locate the swimmer.
The sheriff's dive team responded and recovered Barba's body in about ten feet of water at 2:30 p.m.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office.
