Hillsdale Man Arrested After Threats Against Obama

Federal authorities have charged a Hillsdale County man with illegally possessing ammunition, a few weeks after interviewing him to determine if he posed a threat to President Barack Obama. John Stephenson was arrested Wednesday and remains in custody. His attorney, David Kaczor, says a federal judge in Grand Rapids agreed to order a psychiatric exam.

Stephenson is charged with illegally possessing ammunition because he is an ex-convict. Agents interviewed him in April at a McDonald's in Hillsdale and visited him again at home three days before Obama's June 7 visit to Kalamazoo.

Hundreds of rounds of ammunition were seized June 18. Stephenson's attorney noted that he is not charged with threatening Obama.
