Boy, 5, Dead After Dog Attack

A 5-year-old Lincoln Park boy is dead after what is suspected of being an attack by a 90-pound wolf-dog mix in his bedroom. Police Chief Thomas Karnes says it happened Monday morning. He identifies the dead boy as Kyle Holland.

"Our officers responded and in an upstairs bedroom they found a five-year old male that had significant trauma to his body," Karnes said adding the child had been dead for a couple hours before officers arrived.

People living along Empire Street said they heard screams from one of their neighbors.

Karnes said Kyle's mother found him with serious injuries. The chief says there were two dogs in the house, one about 35 pounds and the other about 90 pounds and suspected of being a wolf-dog hybrid.

Karnes says the Wayne County medical examiner's office will examine the boy's body to determine if he died of an animal attack and if so, which dog attacked him.

"We don't know for certain that the child's death was caused by an animal, the bites could've been after the child was deceased," Karnes said.

The animals are in quarantine.
