MSU Dairy Herd Sale To Save Moo-lah

Call it bovine belt-tightening: Michigan State University seeks to save money by selling 70 dairy cows in the Upper Peninsula. The Lansing State Journal reports Friday the East Lansing school expects to make about $70,000 from the sale of the herd at the Upper Peninsula Experiment Station in Chatham. The university also would save money it's been spending on upkeep.

The auction is scheduled for October.

Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station Associate Director John Baker says there were no current or future research plans for the herd.
