Poll: Cheeks Kilpatrick Trails Clarke

Just over two weeks until the primary election and a a new poll shows incumbent Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick trailing State Senator Hansen Clarke.

The Detroit News-WDIV poll shows Clarke leading Cheeks Kilpatrick 38% to 30%. The margin shrinks to four percent when pollsters questioned voters who are likely to cast ballots.

20-percent of voters are undecided.

There is a total of six Democratic candidates in the race.  Kilpatrick has been fending off questions related to her son, ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick who is in jail for probation violation and facing federal fraud charges.

Kilpatrick's campaign coordinator said voters will have the final say in the election.

"Our poll indicates that Congresswoman Kilpatrick is leading the race," said Eddie McDonald, Campaign Coordinator, in a statement. "Voters—not pundits or pollsters—will have the final say on August 3. We believe voters value the Congresswoman's hard work, leadership, seniority, and experience and will re-elect her to the U.S. House of Representatives."

The primary election is August 3rd.
