The National Weather Service confirms tornados touched down at the tip of Michigan’s rural Thumb and in the Cadillac area of the northern Lower Peninsula. The weather service said Monday a weak tornado with 80 mile per hour winds hit the ground about 10:10 p.m. Sunday at Lighthouse County Park. It’s in Huron County’s Huron Township, about 70 miles east-northeast of Saginaw.
There was little reported damage in the tornado’s two-mile path.
Another tornado with 65 mph winds touched down Sunday three miles south of Cadillac in Wexford County. It tore the roof off a building at a lumber yard.
Officials were checking Monday to see if damage in the Houghton Lake area was from a tornado or straight-line winds.
