DPS Ramps Up Enrollment Campaign

Not only will you see the DPS blue door in ads urging parents to return their children to or consider enrollment in Detroit Public Schools, but this year there will be a mobile enrollment vehicle showing up in neighborhoods citywide.

DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb said all parents have to do is show up.

"All the paperwork will be in the van that they need to enroll the children, so it's very easy, very simple," Bobb said.

"All we need are parents to come out and hear the pitch and we'll provide them with all the enrollment materials all of the information they need to get their child enrolled in Detroit Public Schools," Bobb said.

The blue door campaign, which took an advertising campaign in 2009, successfully attracted more than 800 students than anticipated.

This year Bobb said inroads are being made in an effort to attract students from the inner-ring suburbs.

"We've enrolled over 300 students just from our open-enrollment campaign from our charter schools, actually a total of over 400 because we also brought children in from out of district, as well" Bobb said.
