Lansing-Area Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Blast

A 24-year-old soldier from the Lansing area who was to have left Afghanistan in July but had his tour extended 45 days has been killed in fighting there.

The Pentagon says Army Pfc. Bradley D. Rappuhn of Grand Ledge died Sunday.

It says he and another soldier were wounded when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive in Zhari Kandahar, Afghanistan.

His mother Roxanne Rappuhn says her son ``was supposed to come home in the end of July'' but had 45 days tacked on to his tour.

His family traveled to Dover, Del., for a ceremony Monday marking the return of his body to the U.S.

Rappuhn graduated in 2004 from Grand Ledge High School.

His unit was out of Fort Benning, Ga.
