Bishop Ellis Receives Top Honor

Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, pastor of Detroit's Greater Grace Temple, has been selected by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, as its presiding bishop.

Ellis was elected during the organization's annual convention in Minneapolis last week. Before his election, Ellis served two terms as assistant presiding bishop.

Ellis became pastor of Greater Grace Temple in 1996 after the death of his father, Bishop David Ellis. The church now has about 6,000 members and programs that include sports camps for youth, homeless outreach and substance abuse programs. The 20-acre "City of David" complex in northwest Detroit is home to a 4,000-seat auditorium, conference center and banquet hall, print shop, travel agency and state-of-the-art television studio.

The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World says it has about 1,600 churches and 1.5 million members.
