Kettering Celebrates Crash Test Center's Birthday

Kettering University will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Kettering University Crash Safety Center on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.

The Crash Safety Center is in the bottom floor of the Mott Center, C.S. Mott Engineering and Science Center building.

Kettering president Stan Liberty will push the big red button to send the sled into a crash test at 11:15 a.m. There will be further sled runs at noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The crash center, run by Janet Brelin-Fornari, has several accomplishments over the past five years, including improving occupant protection for children, especially in the development of new side impact standards for child seats.

Also through the center's research, families whose children are in body casts have learned how to transport their loved ones more safely.

The center has also strengthened Kettering's undergraduate courses of study and the school's partnerships with industry and the military
