Lions' Right Tackle Spot Still Is Up For Grabs

A little competition never hurt anybody.

In fact, when it comes to the Lions' starting right tackle spot, the competition between Jon Jansen and Gosder Cherilus could be the best situation for both.

"There's no question it's brought out the best in both of us," said Jansen, 33. "I think we are both playing really good football. That competition is going to be decided by the coaches."

Neither Jansen nor Cherilus, 26, has separated himself. Both have been splitting time in practice with the first team.

"I think guys are showing what they can do but we aren't ready to end competition," coach Jim Schwartz said. "We still have two preseason games to play and a lot more work to do."
