Appia Video Communicator Adds New Interoperability

The Traverse City managed communications and network provider Appia Communications Thursday announced that its Appia Video Communicator Product now interoperates with H.323 devices.

With this addition, customers can bring any Internet-connected H.323 video conferencing node into an AVC session.

AVC is a cost-effective, hosted video communication system that supports multiple resolutions and includes end-to-end FIPS-certified encryption and collaboration tools. AVC scales from a single user desktop to a conference room installation without requiring proprietary equipment. Since no special hardware is required, customers can enjoy the benefits of video communication without making a major investment. Distance learning, customer sales and support, and other applications can become a reality by using AVC to extend current H.323 video infrastructure.

The addition of H.323 interoperability enables customers to use AVC without having to discard video equipment in which they may have made substantial investments.

"Connecting an H.323 system from AVC is very easy," said Mike Pfannenstiel, director of business development for AVC. "With an Appia video account, customers just click the Dial Out button and enter the IP address of the H.323 device they want to see. Within seconds, they will establish a video session with that device."

This enhancement to AVC is immediately available. Existing users will find the feature currently available in their AVC software. No special hardware is required. Using this feature, customers can interconnect to such popular systems as Tandberg and Polycom.
