DPS Volunteers Honored
Hundreds of Volunteers were rewarded for their efforts Friday at a Detroit Public Schools picnic on Belle-Isle.
Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb says the mentors come from all over to spend time teaching.
It's not just a Detroit program but a program that has attracted volunteers from the entire Metro Detroit area and a few from Canada.
Bobb says the school system has about 3,200 pre-k students enrolled this year-- and he wants a volunteer tutor for every student.
Bobb also wants every child reading at grade level or above by the time they reach 3rd grade by 2014.
