Wedding Chapel Opens At Trade Center
At the Gibraltar Trade Center in Mt. Clemens you can get a tatoo or a hot dog, and now you can get married.
A one-of-a-kind chapel opened for business about a year ago, and interest is increasing.
It's called the Divine Life Wedding Chapel, and Rev. Kelly Cooper tells WWJ the regular ceremony is $50, but you can upgrade and even rent a dress,
Cooper said it all started as a joke with her son, but over time, got serious about it. She says nothing about the ceremony is "tacky."
"I opened this up to have a way for a person to have a budget wedding -- for somebody who wants to get married but can't afford it... I do a ceremony, I don't just say 'Okay, you're here, you're married," Cooper said.
Cooper said opening the business was something she'd been considering for a long time.
"Everything started coming into alignment. And, I said "Okay, God, I know you've got a sense of humor. If you're behind me I can't lose. So, here I am!" she said.
Cooper makes and sells veils, as well as lace and other wedding-related items. She rents wedding and prom dressses.
The Gibraltar Trade Center is located on North River Road near the I-94 exit/entrance. The chapel is open noon to 9 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
