Awards and Certifications From September 1

Oakland County wins Best of the Web Award: Oakland County is one of five counties around the nation to receive a Best of the Web Award from the Center for Digital Government. The county's Web site, www.oakgov.com, garnered 3rd place for its Web portal design. The Best of the Web Awards have "recognized excellence of official Web portals of United States cities, counties and states for the past 15 years. The original and most popular state and local government Web site competition, the Best of the Web recognizes and honors outstanding government portals and Web sites based on their innovations, functionality and efficiencies," according to the Center for Digital Government. Oakland County's IT Department continues its trek toward integrating Web 2.0 technologies to improve www.oakgov.com as a user-friendly, interactive site. For example, users can pay tickets online or file personal property tax statements; public health sanitarians are able to file reports from their laptops in the field; and schools and hospitals are able to submit reports of communicable diseases to the Health Division. The county's website also provides transparency in government by making it easy to navigate to items such as the county's line item budget or search court records. Last year, the Center for Digital Government named Oakland County the most digitally advanced county in the United States.
