Livonia Named Worst For Speed Traps

It's the most likely place to be pulled over. The National Motorists Association has released its rundown of the worst speed traps in every state, and Livonia tops the list.

To qualify, cities have to meet one of two criteria: the most user-reported speed traps regardless of population size, and the most speed traps for cities with populations of 100,000 or less.  Livonia was ranked top in both categories.

Listed as likely places to be ticketed are Levan between Five and Six Mile roads, Levan and Interstate 96, the Farmington and Schoolcraft roads intersection, and Newburgh between Five and Six Mile, to name a few.

Comments on the website at  www.speedtrap.org also point to one particular officer, who's reportedly known to be a stickler on speed -- often ticketing even the spouses of his fellow officers.

"[The Livonia officer] sits in the parking lot of the Newburgh Swim Club between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. and tickets anyone going 30 mph or over during the school zone speed limit hours. The normal speed limit is  . School zone is 25 mph. You can't see the cop car heading southbound on Newburgh because he's hiding behind the bushes. Slowwww down!" typed one commenter.

In Birmingham, one tipster says there's a speed trap at Adams Road near Maple Road.  The tipster says "Adams Rd. between 15 mile (Maple)& 16 Mile (Big Beaver). The Boys sit in between the 2 schools ,in the morning just waiting to give you a ticket for 30 in a 25  zone."

In Taylor, one person writes "The Boys hang out in the driveway of the Gardner White furniture store on the west side of Telegraph just south of Ecorse. As you approach Telegraph goes down an incline as you go under the Ecorse road under pass. You can't see them and your detection device will be blocked by the over-pass until you pass under Ecorse. At that point you're all done! Just wave as you pass by the unmarked with the red & blues flashing from the side view mirrors... The speed limit is 45 mph."

In Roseville some people say a speed trap is set up on Masonic Blvd. from Groesbeck Hwy. to Gratiot Ave.  "The speed limit is 30 mph. I see someone pulled over nearly every day! Police hide in the factories near Groesbeck Hwy., the 7-11 and at the Macomb Mall near Gratiot Ave," one person wrote.
