Cash For Guns Program Begins

Detroit Police want your guns -- and they're giving cold hard cash-- no questions asked. From now until Thursday at 6 p.m. -- The Detroit Police Department is holding their first gun buyback of year.

Individuals will receive anywhere between $25 to $100 dollars for guns that are broke to working firearms.

Detroit Police Detective Brian Fountain said the department is seeing an uptick in the cases of young black men being murdered --  and he's hoping efforts like this will help curb that climbing number.

The buyback is on a first come, first serve basis, the drive being to, "get those guns off the street, no questions asked," Det. Fountain stated.

He said thanks to a local company. Continental Management  -- they've got enough money to really pull these weapons off the streets.

The event  is being held until 6 p.m. Thursday, September 2,  at Second Ebenezer Church on Dequindre.
