Mail Service Restarts At Detroit Seniors Building

Mail delivery halted this week at a Detroit senior citizens apartment building recently treated for a bed bug infestation is expected to resume in time for some residents to receive Social Security and other monthly checks.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Ed Moore said service should restart Friday at the Warren West Apartments.

Moore said the mail carrier to the building encountered exterminators wearing suits similar to those worn by hazardous materials workers. That was several days ago, and she has not returned over concern for her health and the safety of her unborn child.

The Detroit News reports about 100 people live in the nine-story building. Moore said some residents were able to pick up mail at the closest branch office.
