New Mich. Justice To Make Public Debut

Michigan's new Supreme Court justice will make his first public appearance with other justices on Sept. 15.On that day, the state's highest court will meet in Lansing for a public hearing on several issues related to the operation of courts statewide.

Alton T. Davis of Grayling was appointed to the state Supreme Court on Aug. 26, replacing Justice Elizabeth Weaver, who resigned. His appointment by Gov. Jennifer Granholm puts Democrats in the majority, 4-3.

The 63-year-old Davis was an appeals court judge before his promotion.
