Unique Oakland Tech School Meets Afternoons

The first day of school was an exciting one for students across Oakland County. While most students were out of school by early afternoon, classes began at 1:30 p.m. for 90 high school students attending the new Oakland Opportunity Academy, housed at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest at 1000 Beck Road in Wixom.
 
The Oakland Opportunity Academy is designed to prepare high school students for success in college and careers following graduation by offering quality instruction in a hybrid education program that combines traditional, career technical and online learning. The flexible schedule includes classes that meet Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 8 p.m., with additional online learning opportunities.
 
Students attending Oakland Opportunity Academy receive individual assistance from certified teachers as they complete their high school requirements; explore certificate programs in computer sciences, health careers or culinary arts and hospitality; and create a post-secondary plan (including help with college applications, financial aid forms, college visits, and more).
 
Oakland Opportunity Academy is a collaboration between Oakland Schools and six Oakland County school districts: Clarenceville, Farmington, Huron Valley, Novi, Walled Lake, and West Bloomfield. High school students from these districts who are looking for a non-traditional learning environment and flexible program can apply to attend Oakland Opportunity Academy.
