Hollywood-Style Premiere For Detroit 1-8-7

[photogallerylink id=26100 align=left]The TV drama, Detroit 1-8-7, is ready to roll into prime time following a red carpet premiere at the MGM Grand Detroit Casino.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis attended the premiere. Stephanie reports the premiere episode opened with the Stevie Wonder tune, Higher Ground. That got immediate applause from the crowd, a mix of Detroit's who's-who, celebrities and politicians.

City Council President Charles Pugh says "I was impressed. I really was impressed by the look and feel of it. It's almost like a reality TV show."

Executive Producer Kevin Hooks says "I just don't think that people really knew what we were doing and on the heels of the controversy - that very unfortunate controversy - that took place earlier during the summer when we got here, I think there was a lot of confusion."

The series is shot in Detroit. It stars Michael Imperioli and James McDaniel as homicide detectives. It debuts on ABC-TV, Channel 7 in Detroit, on Tuesday, September 21.
