Davenport Offering $1,000 Tuition Assistance At Some Campuses

Davenport University is stepping up to support several local communities it serves that have been particularly hard-hit by the economy, offering up to $1,000 in tuition assistance to new, incoming students preparing for new careers.

"The economy has taken its toll on Michigan residents and we want to do everything we can to reduce the barriers people face to getting the education they need to pursue the careers they want," said Richard Pappas, Davenport president. "This special assistance is meant to help those who found it difficult to get started with us during the first fall session. It's time to get them into the classroom and then into strong careers."

Specifics of the assistance program include:

* Available to new and transfer students entering Davenport's fall 2010 second session (starts Oct. 27, 2010).
* Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible, but must have completed a FAFSA and be accepted into Davenport University.
* One-time, non-renewable opportunity (all funds to be disbursed during the fall 2010 second session).
* Available to students at nine select campuses: Caro, Midland, Saginaw, Flint, Warren, Livonia, Gaylord, Traverse City and Alma.
* Can be used to cover any institutional charges on a student's account and combined with other Davenport scholarships.
* Amounts: $1,000 for students taking six credits or more; $500 for those taking less than six credits.

The deadline to benefit from this assistance is Oct. 15. For more information, call (800) 686-1600 or visit www.davenport.edu

Davenport University serves an enrollment of approximately 12,000 students at its W. A. Lettinga Campus in Grand Rapids, 14 campuses throughout Michigan and online. More at www.davenport.edu.
