Gas Leak In Oakland Township

A construction crew hit a gas line Monday in Oakland Township, ending natural gas into the atmosphere in a residential area.

Paul Strelchuck, with the Oakland Township Fire Department told WWJ they are asking residents near Silverbell and Adams to take precautions.

"What we're asking people to do is just to close your windows and turn off your air conditioners, if you happen to have them running, and just hand tight. At this point, we're not doing any type of an evacuation," he said.

Strelchuck said Consumers Energy was working to cut off the gas line.

He said that, aside from getting a few whiffs of natural gas, residents have nothing to worry about.
