Hundreds of golfers teed up for education Monday at Oakland Hills Country Club in the 14th Annual YMCA Legacy Classic.
YMCA President Reid Thebualt said the proceeds go toward an endowment for children’s programs like the Detroit Leadership Academy Charter School which just opened on the city’s west side.
Over the past 14 years, the event has raised over $2 million for the cause — an impact Thebault said will outlast the event itself.
“If at some point in time … we don’t have it, this event will leave its legacy and allow the Y to continue serving kids in perpetuity,” he said.
