Detroit's 4th Land Use Forum On Southwest Side

The latest community meeting on Detroit Mayor Dave Bing's plans for reshaping Detroit will be held on the city's southwest side Tuesday evening.

It is the fourth in a series of forums where city residents are encouraged to give their views on the best uses of city land. Bing has said the 12- to 18-month land use planning process aims to strengthen the city.

Some parts of Detroit are nearly empty of people as the city's population continues to decline. Bing says it's hard to serve those areas.

The first three meetings exceeded capacity with hundreds of residents expressing concern about being kicked out of their homes under Bing's plan to stabilize some city neighborhoods.

Tuesday evening's "Detroit Works'' project meeting will be held at Western International High School.

The final meeting is scheduled for:

Wed., Sept. 22, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, 315 E. Warren Ave. (Doors open at 6 p.m.)
