Michigan Lawmakers Ready To Tackle Budget Bills

Michigan lawmakers are headed back to the state Capitol this week to try to resolve the state government's hundred-million-dollar budget problems.

The Legislature returns to session Tuesday. The main work this week likely will focus on passing bills to eliminate a projected $484 million shortfall for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.

Lawmakers may consider proposals to start a tax amnesty program in an effort to raise more money for the state budget. The Legislature might also vote on proposals to try and save money through a retirement incentive package for state employees.
