Plex HR Manager Wins Statewide Award: Auburn Hills-based Plex Systems Inc. announced that its human resources manager, Taya Johnston, is the winner of the Michigan Human Resources Executive of the Year award from the American Society of Employers. Johnston will be honored at an event attended by the industry's top executives and peers on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Detroit Athletic Club. The American Society of Employers is a not-for-profit employer association serving Michigan's human resource business community. Each year, ASE recognizes special individuals who have dedicated their efforts to become outstanding human resources executives within their organization and the industry. Johnston, winner in the organizations with fewer than 1,000 Michigan employees category, leads all HR functions for this rapidly growing technology firm. Since joining Plex Systems in 2006, Johnston has provided HR leadership including supporting the growth of the company's workforce by more than 40 percent and the expansion into a new office in Auburn Hills earlier this year. In addition to recruiting Michigan talent, she has led the hiring of key sales staff in other U.S. regions as well as Europe and Asia. Johnston led the expansion of a comprehensive co-op program that provides learning opportunities for students from UD-Mercy, Oakland University, Lawrence Technological University and Kettering with the goal of transitioning students into full-time employment upon their graduation. She also manages innovative charitable contribution activities including generous corporate matching for individual giving, volunteering, and an employee-led corporate charity program that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Michigan-based charities.
