DTE Energy wants to make you a star — an energy savings star. The company Wednesday announced a contest seeking customer-made videos illustrating ways to save money by saving energy. A grand prize of $1,500 toward an energy efficient Energy Star appliance will be awarded to the winner.
“We’ve provided energy savings tips to our customers for years,” said Patricia Poppe, DTE Energy’s director of business energy services. “Now, we want customers to share with us and others what’s worked for them by entering our ‘Are You an Energy-Saving Star?’ video contest.”
Contestants can review contest rules and submit their videos on the company’s Web site at dteenergy.com/videocontest or on Facebook page at facebook.com/yourenergysavings. Entries are being accepted through Friday, Oct. 15 and will be posted on both sites so viewers can vote for their favorites. Voting will end Friday, Oct. 22 with winners announced Friday, Oct. 29.
In addition to the grand prize, a second prize of $1,000 toward an Energy Star appliance will be awarded. Another 10 contestants will receive honorable mention prizes of home energy efficiency kits valued at $25. The top prize winners will select from a wide array of Energy Star products, including refrigerators, flat screen TVs, computers, washers, dryers and much more.
Winners will be selected based on voting results and input from a panel of DTE Energy energy efficiency experts — with voting results carrying significant weight. The videos will be judged on creativity, storytelling, types of energy efficiency improvements made and the details involved in the information submitted.
