Sterling Heights Cops On Leave Following Shooting

Three Sterling Heights police officers are on administrative leave following the shooting death of a suicidal man armed with a handgun.

Officers were called to a home on Botsford Ave near 15 Mile and Mound on Friday and when they approached the home, officers were approached by the suspect's grandfather.

Shortly after officers arrived on the scene 39-year-old Matthew Moroni came out of the house holding a handgun.

Police say Moroni ignored the officers' commands and pointed the gun at them.

The officers fired, EMS personnel responded and Moroni was pronounced dead at the scene.

A search of the residence revealed a large assortment of weapons and ammunition.

An investigation into the incident is under way.
