Police say Leverett was sitting inside a Mercedes Benz car parked outside the mall, near valet parking, just before closing Friday evening when another car pulled up and someone started shooting. Leverett was shot numerous times while still inside his vehicle.

Deputy Police Chief Jim Burke says this was no random act.

“We don’t know the motive, why he was shot by this guy, but it’s obvious that the suspect targeted our victim,” Burke said. The suspect fired four shots.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance tapes from the mall as part of the investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Harper Woods police at 313-343-2530.
