Attorney's Wife Released From Jail

An Oakland County woman accused of killing her attorney husband was released from jail, hours after being barred from attending her husband's funeral.

Laura Johnson was released on bond, according to her lawyer, who says "there is no evidence" to suggest his client killed 47 year-old Lloyd Johnson. As she walked out of the Oakland County jail, Johnson again said she's innocent.

Laura Johnson was jailed on charges of murder and practicing medicine without a license after her husband died last week at Botsford Hospital.

"We're not certain that the forensic evidence can support our theory beyond a reasonable doubt," a statement attributed to Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper said. But the prosecutor's office says the charges remain in place "as of right now."

Johnson wasn't able to attend her husband's funeral Monday morning.

Meantime, the Oakland County Medical Examiner said the actual cause of Lloyd Johnson's death remains a mystery.

The medical examiner said he is awaiting test results to help determine the cause of death. There were no gunshot, stab wounds or other sources of trauma, although opiates were found in his blood.

Johnson weighed over 400 pounds, had a chronic infection and had damaged organs at the time of last week's death. Police claim Johnson died at the hands of his wife Laura, who's been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, but they're not saying how he died.

The woman's mother said she will be cleared by the medical examiner's findings.
