Dad Who Left Baby In Van To Face Charges

A local dad, accused of leaving his 14-month-old daughter in a mini van in Macomb Township Saturday, is expected to turn himself in Thursday.

Macomb County Sheriff's Office Captain Tony Wickersham tells WWJ Newsradio 950 the mother found the little girl safe and sound after a friend called and advised her of what the father was doing.

The friend saw the minivan in an empty lot at their mobile home park with the keys in the ignition and the baby in the back seat.

Wickersham tells WWJ that the friend did the right thing.

"I just think that [the friend] found out about it and, you know, felt that it was wrong and that the baby needed to be rescued basically, so he made the call to the mother... and we were glad that that happened, yes," Wickersham said.

Wickersham said deputies had to a bit of detective work to find the dad, but they are expecting him to be processed Thursday.

He faces charges including second degree child abuse and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.
