Sunday Morning Liquor Sales Considered

Sunday morning liquor sales in Michigan would be allowed under a bill approved by the Legislature today and is headed to Governor Granholm for her signature. The bill would allow liquor sales before noon Sundays.

Lance Binoniemi, executive director of the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, says it'll have a major impact on the hospitality industry.

"Whether it's a golf course or a fine dining establishment that provides lunch on Sunday or maybe a shop-bar that has a third shift that ends early morning , there are a variety of establishments that would use this."  Binoniemi said.

Under the new rules; beer, wine and spirits could be sold beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday, with a special permit.

The Legislature has approved the new liquor sale hours, but they won't become law unless the Governor signs off on it.
