A movie studio that announced big plans in Allen Park will be relocating in Detroit.
Unity Studios announced the decision on Thursday, saying its initial plans to build sound stages and production offices will move forward at TechTown, a business incubator at Wayne State University
Techtown spokesperson Nicole Christian says Unity Studios has signed only a 2 month lease, however the studios could decide to stay.
Allen Park Mayor Gary Burtka says in a statement that the studio “has not developed into the project its owners represented.”
Allen Park officials had threatened to evict Unity Studios in May, claiming it had missed rent payments and not complied with lease requirements. The city and the studio later reached a deal to avoid eviction.
Studios spokesman Eric Cedo says it was simply a business decision and nothing personal.
“It’s not a matter of why not Allen Park, it’s just right now the best thing for us moving forward is to relocate to the city of Detroit,” Cedo said.
Cedo says they are currently looking at 2 locations within the city.
