Future Employees Focus of Consumers Energy Campus Campaign

With an eye out for the future, an education and recruitment campaign -- Consumers Energy on Campus -- will be coming to schools throughout Michigan during October.

Consumers Energy employees will be paying visits to middle schools and high schools, as well as conducting strategic recruiting at several state colleges and universities.

With significant work force transition expected in coming years, Consumers Energy is alerting students in college and high school to career opportunities, as well as raising awareness with middle and elementary school students about energy topics.

"We want Michigan students to know who we are and that we are recruiting a diverse and educated future workforce to serve customers with electricity and natural gas," said Mattie McKinney, corporate diversity director for Consumers Energy.  "We will be talking with students enrolled in science, technology, engineering and math classes."

Consumers Energy is investing $6-billion plus in Michigan over the next five years to help strengthen the state's energy infrastructure, create jobs and protect the state's natural resources with energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Consumers Energy employees are visiting Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Central Michigan University, Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, Michigan Technological University, Wayne State University, Delta College and Jackson Community College.

Employees are also conducting interactive career opportunity presentations at middle schools and high schools throughout Michigan. Information about careers at Consumers Energy is available at:  www.consumersenergy.com/careers.

Consumers Energy employees also are presenting the award-winning Hazard Hamlet and Respect the Flags programs to elementary students. These presentations teach important lessons about being safe around electricity and natural gas, and can be reserved by sending an e-mail to education@consumersenergy.com. Information about Consumers Energy's energy awareness program for students -- Brain Station – is available at:  www.consumersenergy.com/kids.

Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
