Detroit To Launch "Believer" Campaign

Are you a believer? Women from across metro Detroit gathered at the Century Grill downtown Wednesday to learn about a new public service campaign designed to boost Detroit's image.

Whether you live in the city of Detroit or its suburbs, you've no doubt heard negative comments about the Motor City.

"I think the first thing we need to do is change people's hearts and minds about the city," said Paige Curtis of the Curtis Group ad agency, one of Detroit's 100 Leading Ladies in attendance at Wednesday's event.

"It's not okay to dump on Detroit. And we also need to try to change hearts and make people believe we can change our city -- they we have to step up and volunteer to do it. We may not have the money to do it, but we certainly have the manpower," Curtis said.

Detroit's first lady Yvette Bing says, first things first, we need to recognize the problems that face the city.

"And then just become an active part in trying to solve those problems -- mainly through volunteerism... I think just volunteering your time and your efforts and your talents is going to make a difference," she said.

Funds are currently being raised to cover production costs for TV and radio PSAs the support the "I'm A Believer" campaign.
