Inforum to Offer Programs to Prepare Women for Corporate Boards: The Inforum Center for Leadership, the research and education arm of Inforum, Michigan's leading network of professional women, is launching a results-oriented training and networking initiative designed to create a larger pool of female corporate board service candidates. The initiative, called BoardConnections, has been developed in response to needs expressed by Michigan CEOs for better access to qualified board candidates from diverse backgrounds. Its goal is to help retain Michigan's top female executive talent while addressing new Securities and Exchange Commission rules that require companies to report on their efforts to recruit diverse boards of directors. BoardConnections is designed to help prepare women for corporate board service -- today and in the future -- through a combination of strategic board readiness coaching and networking for senior executives, and interactive, informational BoardBasics workshops for professionals at all stages in their careers. The first BoardBasics workshop will be held on Oct. 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. The BoardBasics program will feature a panel discussion with serving board members and legal and financial experts discussing what it takes to be on a corporate board today. Women of Wind Energy to hold kickoff meeting: The Michigan chapter of Women of Wind Energy will hold its kickoff meeting Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Novi Library, 45255 W. 10 Mile Road in Novi. Attendees will learn more about WoWE, network with other Michigan women, and find out ways to get involved in mentoring, scholarship and many other opportunities in the area of wind energy. Keynote speakers are to include Dawn White, co-founder and president of Accio Energy, and Maria Thompson, co-founder and president of T/J Technologies. Red Level, DataCore Host VMware Virtualization Event: Technicians and professionals from across Michigan will gather together for a technical seminar to learn about VMware, storage virtualization and business continuity.
