Health Officials Investigate Possible Food Poisoning Outbreak

The Macomb County Health Department is investigating a possible food poisoning outbreak at a Shelby Township banquet hall.

Steve Gold, with the county health department said they were contacted by people who got sick after they attended functions at Club Monte Carlo on Saturday or Sunday.

Gold tells WWJ their investigation has a long way to go.

"We have to contact everybody who ate there and find out what they ate and how much and if they had any symptoms afterword. And, if so, what kind of symptoms, and when did they start and how intense were they and so one and so forth," Gold said.

Health officials have interviewed 100 people so far and have about 200 people left to go. Gold said they'll build up a database they'll use to examine if the likelihood of illness is associated with eating any particular food item.

Gold said the food at the hall had been thrown out, making the investigation more difficult. It will be a week or two before results are final.
