Allen Park School Evacuated

Students at Allen Park Middle School have returned to class after a police investigation near the school prompted an evacuation Friday morning.

Officials tell WWJ Newsradio 950 that a man was arrested in Dearborn for allegedly making pipe bombs, and he reportedly had a map of the school in his possession.

The students were taken to Cabrini High School while police searched the middle school building.

Nothing was found, and students were allowed to return to their classrooms after two sweeps of the school by State Police.

Allen Park School Superintendent John Sturock tells WWJ's Pat Sweeting it all happened so fast --  they didn't have time to notify all parent's directly. But, the school immediately sent a message to those who are signed up  for a Wayne County notification system.

Those parents who weren't signed up for the system heard about the evacuation through word of mouth or the media. Sturock said school officials' main concern was getting the kids out to safety.

"First and foremost was the safety of our children -- making sure that they were out of a potential situation. Obviously, it turned out to be okay, but you never know in this day and age. So, getting our kids out of the building was first and foremost," he said.
