UM, Fraunhofer set carbon neutral vehicle event: Fraunhofer USA and the University of Michigan will host "Toward Carbon Neutral Vehicles" Oct. 21 at the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth. Included will be discussion of research programs at the Univerity of Michigan, as well as presentations of Fraunhofer research programs in energy. Officials from the state of Michigan will also discuss energy programs and commercialization. The all-day program begins at 8 a.m. There's a reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and tours of the Fraunhofer Center for Laser Technology from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Register at http://www.engin.umich.edu/form/cnv2010. Overall the conference discusses the technological, social and policy issues involved in creating sustainable transportation. The CNV agenda can be accomplished through participation by technology providers, academic institutions, national laboratories, government and state agencies, economic development agencies and venture capitalists. Fraunhofer USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft which has 59 researchinstitutes at more than 40 locations throughout Germany. A staff of 17,000 scientists and engineers work with an annual research budget of €1.6 billion.
