Governor Wants $25M For Pure Michigan Campaign

Gov. Jennifer Granholm wants to pour $25 million into the Pure Michigan campaign, allowing commercials to get back on the air by the holidays. The fall tourism advertising campaign was canceled for the first time in five years because of a lack of funds.

Granholm now says state revenue has picked up, and she wants the tourism campaign back on the air for the holidays. The extra money also would let the campaign reach farther afield in other seasons.

The Democratic governor says the Pure Michigan ads have been shown to increase tourism, which means more jobs.

Total funding for the Pure Michigan campaign would reach $30.4 million for the fiscal year that started earlier this month if the extra money is approved by lawmakers.
