Pioneer Surgical To Manufacture in Ireland

Marquette-based Pioneer Surgical Technology Inc., a leader in innovative medical devices, announced the company's plan to establish a manufacturing and distribution center in Ireland. 

Pioneer has initiated discussions with the Ireland Development Authority to evaluate potential sites with target opening in the fourth quarter of 2011. 

The new center will support Pioneer's continued growth in Europe by establishing a manufacturing facility within the EU. In addition, the center will allow for the manufacturing of devices intended for sale outside the United States and allow for more responsive delivery of products in the European market.

Pioneer vice president of operations Brian Motter said that despite the move, its current headquarters manufacturing plant in Marquette will "continue to grow." The Marquette headquarters currently coordinates activity at physical properties located in Raleigh and Greenville, N.C., Woburn, Mass. and the Netherlands.

Motter said that "the ability to provide products from a European facility is an essential part of our worldwide growth initiative.  Having established a European presence with the opening of our offices in the Netherlands in 2006 we will continue to grow in Europe and the rest of the world. This facility will enable us to be more responsive to customers outside of the United States."

In 2007, Pioneer expanded its facility in Marquette to more than 110,000 square feet to support continued growth in spinal and orthopedic operations.
