Red Wings' Kirk Maltby To Decide Soon, Could Become A Scout
It looks like a decision from Kirk Maltby on whether to retire or play in the minors won’t come until Tuesday — but if he opts out of playing, a front-office job with the Detroit Red Wings is his to take.
General manager Ken Holland said today he doesn’t anticipate hearing from Maltby “until tomorrow” and that there have been discussions about him staying with the team as a scout.
“I’ve talked to Kirk about keeping him in our organization,” Holland said. “The one guy who left and we haven’t filled his spot is Pat Verbeek. We had three pro scouts, we’re down to two.”
